Sunday Best!

photo 5 (5)       “Love is the very essence of the gospel, and Jesus Christ is our Exemplar. His life was a legacy of love. The sick He healed; the downtrodden He lifted; the sinner He saved. At the end the angry mob took His life. And yet there rings from Golgotha’s hill the words: ‘Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do’—a crowning expression in mortality of compassion and love.” -Thomas S. Monson

Family History Friday: Great Grandpa Emil!

photo (4)

I snapped this picture on my phone of a picture my dad has hanging in his home. It is a picture of my great grandparents and their children on the day of their 50th wedding anniversary. What a nice photo, and very handsome people.

I called my dad to ask him about his uncles and aunts and he said he didn’t really know them. His dad is the 3rd from the right on the back row. They moved across the country when he was about 8 years old, and they didn’t stay close to his dad’s family. At least not the aunts and uncles. I know he wrote and received letters from his grandpa Emil.

Thankfully I was able to do a search on Ancestry.com and found this:

EmilOscarHansonFamily

There they are! My grandpa is Otto in the middle on the front row. They’re all a little younger in this picture, but still very handsome! Now I can write to the person who uploaded this picture and see if he has any other information about this family. Maybe he is a long lost cousin (twice removed).

I love Ancestry.com!

Happy Family History Friday! Love, Joy

Thirsty?

photo 2 (6)Tayzie has discovered that she can drink out of the fountain! It is the cutest thing to watch!

Another funny thing she does is that she barks for an ice cube whenever we get ice for a drink. What a cute dog.

When we come home after being gone for a while, she is always very noisy. Crying and barking. You would think we’d been gone for years. Flexy says she an “Emotional basket case!” Funny!

We sure love our furry friend!!!

photo 1 (5)This is a picture of me and my mission president and his wonderful wife. It was taken the day I flew home. It was August 17th 1984, 30 years ago.

On Sunday the 17th of August 2014 I spoke in church. I was asked to speak about my beautiful and darling daughter Emily who is serving a mission in the West Indies. It was so fun talking about her and I kept thinking about how life goes in cycles.

I had no idea on the day I came home from my mission that 30 years later I would be happily married to my sweetheart, and have 4 wonderful children, and that the last of those 4 children would be getting ready to come home from her own mission.

Isn’t life wonderful? I believe it is, and I’m so grateful to be living it!

HI MY DARLING FAM!!!!!!!!

Welp it sounds like you guys are just kicking life’s bum. (In a good way)
MAHM you gave a talk about ME?? A whole talk about Sister Emily? How can this be? Well that is great! I hope nice words flew from your lips 😉 Thank you for that quote. That is very true.
Ok so as for me….. I am doing absolutely marvelous! This week was wild.
On Tuesday The ZL’s (Zone Leaders) and I taught Zone Meeting! We taught about Flooding the West Indies with the Book of Mormon! The missionaries in our Zone are stellar. On Wednesday morning I flew out to St. Lucia. My mind is all intermingled with the thoughts and people of both islands. The new Sisters there are sister studs. Real excellent missionaries. Honestly I feel like I was the one being taught by them. I showed them around St. Lucia and helped them a lot (or so they said) And I was SO happy to see all of my investigators and members!! They missed me too. What joyful reunions after a couple of weeks!
We are doing swell in our area! Just working hard and focusing more on member work. Honestly there is an angel member named A. and she comes out with us. She came with us to see this family that we teach and they are most of time real goofy and don’t take the lessons real serious and she came and bore POWERFUL testimony and they completely were enthralled. It was so awesome. There are lots of great things about to come forth and I am grateful and humbled every day of my life as I teach people and as the Lord teaches me, through the spirit, scriptures, people and many other ways.
Today we had a fun P-day and went on an adventure! I actually fell into a little stream and got my camera wet, and my planner….. and messed up my ankle a little…… Hahaha oh man. Story of my life. Anyway I am doing great! I have been keeping a thought journal and writing down questions of my soul and then linking my thoughts and studying to answer questions. It is very great. My mind is very deep. I like to think things over and observe things around me. I am so glad to be alive and to be so blessed!
I just want to thank one and all for your love and support and prayers!
I will try and send some pictures soon!

Sunday Best!

DSC02000“There is no physical pain, no spiritual wound, no anguish of soul or heartache, no infirmity or weakness you or I ever confront in mortality that the Savior did not experience first. In a moment of weakness we may cry out, “No one knows what it is like. No one understands.” But the Son of God perfectly knows and understands, for He has felt and borne our individual burdens. And because of His infinite and eternal sacrifice, He has perfect empathy and can extend to us His arm of mercy. He can reach out, touch, succor, heal, and strengthen us to be more than we could ever be and help us to do that which we could never do relying only upon our own power. Indeed, His yoke is easy and His burden is light.”-David A. Bednar

Temple Trip and Selfies!

photo 2 (5)This is our selfie coming out of the Logan Temple!

We had a wonderful temple visit. I love when my children can come with me and my darlin to the temple. It is like heaven to me! This is Alex (aka, Flexy, Elder Flexy, Most Quoted) and Kelsey (aka, Dream Come True, Totally “Fort Worth” it), my darlinest and me.

You’re wondering what’s up with me and my nostrils, right? Well…..here is the explanation. I am a grandma, and you may not be aware that I wear bifocals. This is the only way for me to see the view. So, you get to see my nostrils, almost as if it was part of the plan.

Next time we do a selfie outside the temple, I will not be the one taking the picture!

You’re welcome.

🙂

Tuesday Adventure!

We had a fun Tuesday up in Park City, Utah!

We were spending time with family making Mandala’s!

photo 1 (4)

We took wonderfully shaped rocks and made these fun and beautiful designs on them and painted them with paint markers.

Here is a definition of a Mandala: “The word ‘mandala’ is from the classical Indian language of Sanskrit. Loosely translated to mean ‘circle,’ a mandala is far more than a simple shape. It represents wholeness, and can be seen as a model for the organizational structure of life itself–a cosmic diagram that reminds us of our relation to the infinite, the world that extends both beyond and within our bodies and minds.”

You can read about them here!

We were just being creative mostly, not necessarily following any rules. It was super fun and I just wanted to make more and more of them.

These two are mine.photo 1 (4)Find some rocks and make designs! It is very fun!!!

Hello my wonderful family!!!!

Sounds like all is well for you.
This week was crazy and good. We are having much success here and working very hard. My new area is really great. I love it. The Branch is nice. We are helping it to go smoothly and all is well.
My STL responsibilities are going great! I am leaving on Wednesday to go and see them in my last area… I am flying, we always fly when we go some where!
I call them every couple of weeks and they call me when they need me. I skype them every transfer and go visit them too.
So this week we had a lot of miracles and we had 4 investigators at Sacrament Meeting!!!!!!!!! We have been working with the members and everything so it is doing great!
Honestly this area where I am used to be struggling a little bit and so now I am here and I am obedient, it is stirring up the place a little bit… Oh gosh. There are some problems arising but I guess that is my calling in life to fix things that need to be fixed.
I am very happy and as usual am learning new things everyday and learning to be strong. Today is my comps Birthday and so I made her brownies and breakfast in bed. It has been fun.
Sorry time is so limited today but just know that I am doing my best and working my bum off.
I really love you all very much and appreciate the things you do. You are amazing and sorry this email is so short! Keep being strong in the gospel and being examples to those around you. People really watch us. We need to be careful.
LOVE YOU ALL AND HAVE A GREAT WEEK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sunday Best!

“With admiration and encouragement for everyone who will need to remain steadfast in these latter days, I say to all and especially the youth of the Church that if you haven’t already, you will one day find yourself called upon to defend your faith or perhaps even endure some personal abuse simply because you are a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Such moments will require both courage and courtesy on your part.”-Jeffrey R. Holland
