Happy Birthday America!

DSC03402

I love this country! I feel so blessed to live in the United States of America!ย

“I reverence the Constitution of the United States as a sacred document. To me its words are akin to the revelations of God, for God has placed his stamp of approval on the Constitution of this land. I testify that the God of heaven sent some of his choicest spirits to lay the foundation of this government, and he has sent other choice spiritsโ€”even you who hear my words this dayโ€”to preserve it.

We, the blessed beneficiaries, face difficult days in this beloved land, “a land which is choice above all other lands” (Ether 2:10). It may also cost us blood before we are through. It is my conviction, however, that when the Lord comes, the Stars and Stripes will be floating on the breeze over this people. May it be so, and may God give us the faith and the courage exhibited by those patriots who pledged their lives and fortunes that we might be free, in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.” -Ezra Taft Benson

Thanks, I Needed That!

My heart was about to burst with excitement, when I was waiting for her to come down the escalator at the airport.

I had Emily make me this sign that said,

“Hug me first”.

A really fun thing happened while I was standing there. I got about 10 hugs from people coming home. These were complete strangers!

I loved it! I love hugs!

I had no idea that would happen. But it sure was neat!

Hug someone, it is fun!!

Hello Mom! This week has been….. how do I put this? “Cray cray”. But I love it. Tell Kief that I love him and that I am so proud of him. He will make a great missionary ๐Ÿ™‚ Thank you for showing Maris that picture! And I’m so happy to hear about Shaylea and Bryce. That makes me so happy ๐Ÿ™‚ And for everyone who asks about me tell them that I miss them but I’m working hard and doing great! AHHHHHHH…. Linny bug…. I miss my baby! She is the cutest thing. And yes please, I got all of your letter and the cute pictures from the kids. I started tearing up at District Meeting because they handed out the mail there. Tell all of the kids and everyone that I love them so much!

1. My favorite thing to teach is the Restoration and Plan of Salvation. I love to watch peoples faces light up when I tell them that they can be with their families forever and be with Heavenly Father again. And the Restoration while we are teaching there is always a special spirit. I love it. We are actually teaching a few people who have physical impairments and that is always a great message for them to know that they can have a perfected body someday. We are teaching this guy named P. and he does not have legs!!!! But he is literally the most positive, happy person. I love teaching no matter what the subject. I have been so blessed out here.
2. We don’t have dinner appointments. I have had one dinner appointment since I have been here. At this awesome recent converts house (Brother B.) He is so great. We had “Coo Coo” and Chicken. To be honest… I have no idea what “Coo Coo” even is. It’s some random mushy stuff but it is not too bad ๐Ÿ™‚ And we have had doubles which we buy down the street! I don’t know what they are either…. Hahahah it sounds sketch. But it’s not ๐Ÿ™‚
3. There are many grocery stores! It is A LOT nicer then I thought it would be here. There are lots of stores and places to get things. It is all expensive here because it a touristy spot! But I eat all American food basically.
4. Sister T. is from Salt Lake. ๐Ÿ™‚ And she has been out since February! She has been here in this area the whole time! She is really so great. I love her a lot and we get along very well. It has just been me and her this week and I have loved it! We are actually going to be in another trio with Sister F. I’m excited to welcome her into out companionship. It will be great! The other day Sister T. said that I was one of the most Christ Like people she has met. It made my whole day. But I’m glad that she thinks so because I’ve been trying to be like him for my whole life ๐Ÿ™‚ AHHHHHHHHHH ๐Ÿ™‚ Enough said.
5. Yes please. I got all of the letters ๐Ÿ™‚ THANK YOU! Keep them coming. I will write back really soon!
Tell Brother L. hi for me ๐Ÿ™‚ And thank you for your support and all that you do for me mommy. I really appreciate you and I hope you are doing great! I wish I could be there to help you out with everything you need. But I know that I’m supposed to be here. I have had such great experiences. I wish I could write about them all. I love you. Keep letting the days fly by! Have a great week. I will be talking to you so soon.
I have been driving a ton! It is still kind of crazy! The roads are SO narrow. And you almost run into cars everyday. Last monday me and my comps taught the lesson in District Meeting! It went very well! Oh it is also Hurricane season right now! AH! Look out! Ok so it rains almost everyday here. A LOT OF RAIN! We had a mini testimony meeting with Bro. B. and I started crying! Which is weird I rarely cry. My tear ducts were so loose before I left and now they are dry! He says I’m “something else” I love he bad. Two weird things is there is this lady V. who is in love with me. She is so funny! The other day we teaching this guy C. and his friend came up and was smoking an illegal substance right in my face and yelling at us to pray for him. He was nice….. Hahaha. Don’t worry it’s alright! Ummmm… CHEESE ON BREAD. I wish I could tell you everything that happens here! But I don’t have time. Anyway I still love being a missionary! There are crazy times, sad times, hard times, happy times, exciting times, funny times and every other time you can think of! I’ve been learning and growing a lot and I really love the people here. There may be some crazy ones but most of them are very friendly and nice! I will write you guys a letter and tell you all about my investigators. THEY ARE GREAT! AH I love it so much.

Sunday Best!

“Life is perfect for none of us. Rather than being judgmental and critical of each other, may we have the pure love of Christ for our fellow travelers in this journey through life. May we recognize that each one is doing [his or] her best to deal with the challenges which come [his or] her way, and may we strive to do our best to help out.” -Thomas S. Monson

Hope your Sunday was the Best! Love, Joy

Not Too Proud!

So me and my sweetie pie have had a few struggles with money from time to time in our marriage. We are very blessed mind you, wealthy compared to the world. That being said, we still have run a little short on funds from time to time when we needed it. There was a particular time in our marriage that we needed to find some income. We decided to “donate” plasma. I don’t know why they call it “donating”, because you get paid when you do it. It’s not a bad gig. Since we both were planning on doing it, we decided to call it a date and go together. Sounds fun, right? We would sit next to each other. They had TV’s and there were ear phones we used to listen, so we wouldn’t disturb others watching their show. We would always pick the same show, which happened to be Northern Exposure. We both love that show. It is not on TV anymore, but it was on in the 1990’s. One particular time, while we watched one of our favorite episodes, we both started laughing. We were laughing so hard we had tears streaming down our faces. Everyone was looking at us, wondering what in the world was going on with us. Finally, one of the employees came to check on us, and was wondering why we were laughing so hard. When we told him what we were watching he just a got a big smile on his face and said, “Oh yeah, that is a funny show.” When I look back on the days we dated at the plasma center, I am so happy we had that opportunity. It was a blessing and fun at the same time.

Check out this short clip of Northern Exposure!

Emily and her companions!

Heyo my awesome famawee! How are you all? It sounds like life is still going just great! It has been a month! I didn’t even realize that until someone told me on the 22nd! Crazy! Oh my blisters are better mostly. I just have tons of itchy bug bites!
Here’s a few questions:
1-What do you do on P-day? Been to the beach?

1. We went to the beach once on P-day! But we mostly just clean, email, grocery shop and hang out with the other missionaries. I love P-days they are great! I need to get some souvenirs…. I heard that people regret not getting some from the places they go to.

2-Do you walk everywhere you go? I thought you said you walked and walked? Or do you drive? both?

2. No we have a car ๐Ÿ™‚ BUT that day when we walked and walked our car was being worked on in the shop… Usually for contacting we just park the car and walk though.. But our area is way too huge to not have a car. And it is probs not super duper safe!

3-Where does your ward/branch meet? and how many members are there? How many missionaries in your area/district?

3. We meet in a branch.. There are about 50 active members but at church there is usually less.. Church is SO different here… The doctrines are the same but there just aren’t many people and they all just give their two cents whenever they please in the middle of class! It’s just funny… It weirded me out at first but it’s chill!
4-Does your mission pres and wife have any children still at home?

4. Ummmm… I think all of their kids are older.. I actually don’t ever see them. I’ve only really spent time with them once. With the different islands here it is too hard. So we have like a senior couple on each island that we check in with. I do email President M. every week but I don’t know much about that… Sorry!

5-Do you and your companions share equally in the teaching experience?

5. Yes we have a goal to be very unified and we are doing well. We all teach great together! But Sister C. is leavingย this Wednesdayย and so me and Sister T. will need to re-figure teaching out. I think it’ll be fine ๐Ÿ™‚

6-How long have your companions been out?ย

6. My companions have been out for over 3 months! That’ll probably happen to me.. But it’s fun! We are all learning together.

7-Have you received a letter yet? from me?

7. I have not received any letters yet! Hopefully soon!

8- What is the biggest challenge to missionary work where you are?

8. The people and their life styles…. They all have a chastity and word of wisdom problem… It is pretty rough…

9-Does it rain a lot? Is there a rainy season?

9. It does rain a lot…. Because right now it is rainy/hurricane season! I love the rain though. It is fun and it cools us down! It is still very hot and sunshiney too ๐Ÿ™‚

10-What did you buy at the Shell station?

10. I don’t remember! OH! I bought a bottle of water but I had to spend a certain amount of money so she charged in on my card and then gave me the change back ๐Ÿ™‚

11-Do the senior couple serving near you have a blog? email address?ย

11. I’ll have to check with them and let you know ok??

12- Have you figured out how to send pictures yet? I think you should sent one now and again on the computer.ย

12. I just sent some pictures so I hope you liked them. Things are not very high tech here so it is very hard. I won’t get to send them very often… The internet is really slow and it’s rough.

Hahahahaha mom…. That is so funny that you are creeping on me. I died of laughter. Sorry I have limited time and the internet is slow that it takes up a lot of time. I hope you had fun being the toothfairy! You are so cute. Sorry I am going to have to keep it pretty short today. But I love you so darn much and hope I answered all your questions ๐Ÿ™‚

Daddy: That’s awesome about your missionary experience!!!!!! ๐Ÿ™‚ I have those everyday ๐Ÿ˜‰ I love it out here. It is hard but AWESOME to be a missioanry.

Anyway I will write a letter with things that happened this week. That is the bad thing about picture is then there is less time to email! I’m doing great. I love it here so much. Life is great! I LOVE YOU ALL VERY MUCH.

Sunday Best!

20070613_104427

“I urge you with all the capacity that I have to reach out in a duty that stands beyond the requirements of our everyday lives; that is, to stand strong, even to become a leader in speaking up in behalf of those causes that make our civilization shine and that give comfort and peace to our lives. You can be a leader. You must be a leader, as a member of this Church, in those causes for which this Church stands. Do not let fear overcome your efforts, for as Paul wrote to Timothy: “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind” (2 Timothy 1:7). The adversary of all truth would put into your heart a reluctance to make an effort. Cast that fear aside and be valiant in the cause of truth and righteousness and faith” -Gordon B. Hinckley

Hope your Sunday was the Best! Love, Joy
