Traditions: Our Favorite Christmas Movies!
Who doesn’t love a great Christmas movie! Here is a list of our favorites:
- The Polar Express
- Elf
- Grinch
- How the Grinch Stole Christmas
- It’s a Wonderful Life
- A Christmas Story
- Home Alone
- Miracle on 34th Street
- Frosty the Snowman
- Charlie Brown Christmas
- Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer
- Muppet Christmas Carol
- A Christmas Carol (George C. Scott)
- What About Bob
For years we would read the Christmas story from the scriptures, then watched “It’s A Wonderful Life.” (I’ve told this story before on here, but I have to share it again.) One year we could not find the movie. We searched and found the case for the movie, but no movie was found. Then one of the kids said, “Let’s watch, ‘What About Bob’!” It’s a movie about a guy who thinks he needs a psychiatrist and has all of these issues. He becomes very attached to his shrink and follows him to his vacation home. The plot takes a turn near the end of the movie, and it’s quite funny to see how things turn out. It’s doesn’t have any ties to Christmas, but it became our traditional Christmas Eve movie for a while, until we got a new copy of “It’s a Wonderful Life!”
Updated December, 12, 2023-
Our favorite Christmas movie is “It’s a Wonderful Life.” Some of the things we love about it are: 1-The innocence of the time the movie takes place, which is around World War II. 2-An important part of the story is about sacrifice. George Bailey (Jimmy Stewart) is the main character, and always puts other peoples needs first and foremost, in spite of the fact that he has big dreams of traveling the world and seeing new places. 3-The movie speaks truth. It tells us that God is real and aware of us and what is going on in our lives. And that He will help us, and bless us. 4-That angels are near and helping whether we see them or not. Some people don’t like that others see angels with wings, but I love it. It’s just symbolic and means they can move quickly to aid or help us. 5-This is such an important thing to know, is that we are all significant, we all matter. If we had never been born life would be different for all who love us.
I love that there are wonderful stories that teach us important things. I am grateful for this time of year when we get these reminders while being entertained too. Merry Christmas

Sunday Best!
“Remember, honey contains all of the substances necessary to sustain mortal life. And the doctrine and gospel of Christ is the only way to obtain eternal life. Only when our testimony transcends what is in our mind and burrows deep into our heart will our motivation to love and to serve become like unto the Savior’s. It is then, and only then, that we become deeply converted disciples of Christ empowered by the Spirit to reach the hearts of our fellowmen.
When our hearts are no longer set upon the things of this world, we will no longer aspire to the honors of men or seek only to gratify our pride (see D&C 121:35–37). “

Family History Friday: “Just share ‘k?”
A funny story that happened when my son Riley was little, about 2-3 years old. His dad and I were doing chores, and we were folding a tablecloth together. I didn’t like the way my darlin was doing it, and he didn’t like the way I was doing it. We said a few words in a tone that said we were bugged by each other. Riley was watching the whole thing and said, “Just share, k?” We both looked at each other and busted up laughing. We still laugh about it and quote him to this day.
What does that have to do with family history? Not much, except that it is best done when we share our information and what we know. Family Search has some great information about sharing! You can read about it here!
Happy Family History Friday! Love, Joy
My Cold Hot Water Bottle.
When I was just twenty-one years old, I served an LDS mission to Texas. I arrived in March. The temperature was beautiful and mild during the day, and became cold at night. For some reason, while packing to go on my mission I packed a hot water bottle that belonged to my maternal grandma. I don’t remember why I packed it, but at night when things cooled down, I would fill it with hot water and snuggle in bed with it till I fell asleep. Soon, it was summer and quite hot. We didn’t have air conditioning in all of the places I lived on my mission. It was quite difficult to fall asleep when it was so hot. Sometime between filling the hot water bottle to stay warm and summer coming the lid became stuck on the hot water bottle. I could not remove it, no matter how hard I tried. A nice benefit to not being able to remove the lid and summer coming was that now my hot water bottle was a cold hot water bottle. I would fall asleep moving it to various place on my body my, neck, legs, back, until I would finally be able to fall asleep. I was so grateful for my cold hot water bottle.
“Silly Bands” Galore!
Riley recently bought Natasha a package of “Silly Bands”.
They are cute little rubber bracelets.
They become the shape of something familiar when they are laying on the counter. Like the outline of a boot, or a star, or anything else.
Natasha went a little crazy and put the whole container on her wrist.
“Silly Bands,” gotta love ’em!!

Sunday Best!
“If we will hold fast to the Church’s proclamation on the family, we will see that we hold the jewels, as it were, that can enrich so many other things. Let the world go its own way on the family. It appears to be determined to do that. But we do not have that option. Our doctrines and teachings on the family are very, very powerful, and they are full of implications for all the people on this planet.” -Neal A. Maxwell

THE FAMILY
A PROCLAMATION TO THE WORLD
The First Presidency and Council of the Twelve Apostles of theChurch of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints
WE, THE FIRST PRESIDENCY and the Council of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, solemnly proclaim that marriage between a man and a woman is ordained of God and that the family is central to the Creator’s plan for the eternal destiny of His children.
ALL HUMAN BEINGS—male and female—are created in the image of God. Each is a beloved spirit son or daughter of heavenly parents, and, as such, each has a divine nature and destiny. Gender is an essential characteristic of individual premortal, mortal, and eternal identity and purpose.
IN THE PREMORTAL REALM, spirit sons and daughters knew and worshipped God as their Eternal Father and accepted His plan by which His children could obtain a physical body and gain earthly experience to progress toward perfection and ultimately realize their divine destiny as heirs of eternal life. The divine plan of happiness enables family relationships to be perpetuated beyond the grave. Sacred ordinances and covenants available in holy temples make it possible for individuals to return to the presence of God and for families to be united eternally.
THE FIRST COMMANDMENT that God gave to Adam and Eve pertained to their potential for parenthood as husband and wife. We declare that God’s commandment for His children to multiply and replenish the earth remains in force. We further declare that God has commanded that the sacred powers of procreation are to be employed only between man and woman, lawfully wedded as husband and wife.
WE DECLARE the means by which mortal life is created to be divinely appointed. We affirm the sanctity of life and of its importance in God’s eternal plan.
HUSBAND AND WIFE have a solemn responsibility to love and care for each other and for their children. “Children are an heritage of the Lord” (Psalm 127:3). Parents have a sacred duty to rear their children in love and righteousness, to provide for their physical and spiritual needs, and to teach them to love and serve one another, observe the commandments of God, and be law-abiding citizens wherever they live. Husbands and wives—mothers and fathers—will be held accountable before God for the discharge of these obligations.
THE FAMILY is ordained of God. Marriage between man and woman is essential to His eternal plan. Children are entitled to birth within the bonds of matrimony, and to be reared by a father and a mother who honor marital vows with complete fidelity. Happiness in family life is most likely to be achieved when founded upon the teachings of the Lord Jesus Christ. Successful marriages and families are established and maintained on principles of faith, prayer, repentance, forgiveness, respect, love, compassion, work, and wholesome recreational activities. By divine design, fathers are to preside over their families in love and righteousness and are responsible to provide the necessities of life and protection for their families. Mothers are primarily responsible for the nurture of their children. In these sacred responsibilities, fathers and mothers are obligated to help one another as equal partners. Disability, death, or other circumstances may necessitate individual adaptation. Extended families should lend support when needed.
WE WARN that individuals who violate covenants of chastity, who abuse spouse or offspring, or who fail to fulfill family responsibilities will one day stand accountable before God. Further, we warn that the disintegration of the family will bring upon individuals, communities, and nations the calamities foretold by ancient and modern prophets.
WE CALL UPON responsible citizens and officers of government everywhere to promote those measures designed to maintain and strengthen the family as the fundamental unit of society.

This proclamation was read by President Gordon B. Hinckley as part of his message at the General Relief Society Meeting held September 23, 1995, in Salt Lake City, Utah.
