Food or Toiler Paper?

Which is more important? It’s a tough call.

The other day we almost ran out of TP. In the whole house.

I’ve decided that TP is VERY important to me. Almost more important than food. I know that sounds pretty dramatic, but seriously, you can live for a while without food. But you’re pretty much stranded without TP.

We’ve recently had a lean time in our finances. I needed to buy food, and TP, and it got me thinking…..”If I only had enough money for food or TP which one would I get?”

Hands down, TP!

One of my favorite things is a stock pile of TP in the house. I wonder how that would sound with Julie Andrews singing it.

I am so thankful for TP!!

Raccoons!

I’ve always thought raccoons were cute little fur balls. From time to time in my life I’ve seen them close to the house. Once while my Mom was canning apricots she put the apricots that hadn’t been done yet on the patio. As my brother’s and I watched T.V. that night, we were amazed that the raccoons came right up to the sliding glass door and where eating the apricots. Brazen! They weren’t the slightest bit shy about being so visible to us. I was amazed by that.

One year when my darlin was the scout master in our ward, he and all the scouts and other leaders were at scout camp. They were gone for a week. Sometime in that week we started hearing noise in the vicinity of the fireplace. I knew something was in there, but what I didn’t know. When my hubby got home I told him. He checked in the chimney, and sure enough there were baby raccoons, and a mama! Not a good thing. We tried for days to encourage them out, and nothing would work. Finally after a week or so, we started smelling something strange. My darlin checked in the chimney, and found the mama and one of the babies had died. Ouch! We needed to get them out of there, but how. If we didn’t get them out soon, the house, and all around it was going to stink. We might have to move out. After many attempts at pulling them out the top of the chimney, hubby finally had to pulled them out the bottom, which meant they came through the house. You can imagine the mess. We almost had to call one of the disaster clean up services. Not quite, but I wanted to. There was quite a mess around the fireplace, and I cleaned and cleaned. After the cleaning, we covered the chimney with a special cover. I don’t ever want to have that experience again.

Raccoons are super cute, only if they don’t die in your chimney!

Best Mother’s Day!

I’ve always struggled a little bit on Mother’s Day.

It’s a combination of feeling like I don’t cut it as a mom, and that my children don’t appreciate me. I know, that sounds pathetic. But I do have a desire to be a good mom, and no one likes it when they are constantly taking care of people, and they don’t get a “Thank you” on Mother’s Day.

When my children were young, I always got the token hand print and poem which I loved and still have, but now my children are grown up. I really don’t expect much. I hope for it, but I don’t expect it.

This year one of the biggest things that I was planning on for Mother’s Day was talking to my two children serving LDS missions. I have only talked to them on Christmas and Mother’s Day, and they have both been gone over a year. I miss them, but I know they are doing great things. I was able to talk to both of them on Sunday (Mother’s Day) morning. They both sounded so great and my button’s were bustin’, I am so proud. They will both be home in 2-4 months. So wonderful!!

Next, for the first time in my motherhood, my children here at home and my son’s girlfriend were all competing to see who could write the best Mother’s Day card. How fun! It was so perfect. Riley, wrote a nice note about how he has learned the lesson’s I tried to teach him, he just has to push my button’s. Janet wrote about how I have made her feel loved and she loves me. And Emily wrote a nice card and filled it with coupons, one of which has already happened. It said, “Coupon for 4 amazing kids, 1 amazing husband and one darling grandbaby, and Janny :).” Then she put “paid” all over it. So cute! Then she heart attacked the sliding glass door. Here’s a picture of it.

My favorite part was this note that said,

“If you would like to take credit for a part of this magnificent gift. please sign below…”

What a cute daughter! It was a wonderful day and loved it!

I think the key is to not expect anything, then you will be surprised and amazed when something does happen.

I hope all mother’s and those who mother, had a great Mother’s Day.

I am so grateful for my Mama! She is a women that get’s life, what where here for and how to do it. She is busy, using her time serving others and Heavenly Father. She is smart and understands people. She has taught me so much. Thank you, Mama!

Wonderful People Who Bless My Life!

Do you have wonderful people in your life?

I do!

The most wonderful people bless my life.

Sometimes, they’re the ones that I don’t see everyday, just once in a while, or the one’s who I don’t think about too often. They’re the one’s that are all around me, as I go throughout my days.

They are the people whose example and life inspire and motivate me to be a better person than I would be, if I didn’t know them. They are sometimes the people I take for granted. My family, friends, and neighbors, and even those who I consider acquaintances.

When I see them and I realize it’s been a while, I feel so glad to see them, and so blessed to have them in my life.

I feel so grateful for them.

I know they love me, and I love them. Even though we don’t see each other all the time, and we get busy in our lives, I know they’re there, loving me.

And I know, they know, I’m here loving them.

I love you wonderful people who bless my life!

The Whistle!

One of my favorite stories about my father-in-law involves

his amazing whistle.

He has this whistle that can be heard for miles.

Back when all of the children in my husband’s family where young, it wasn’t uncommon for them to be scattered all over the neighborhood playing with friends on a daily basis. When it was time to come home, my father-in-law would whistle for the children.

The whistle would start with one long whistle, followed by a distinct whistle for each child.

One by one they made it home.

Many years later, my sister-in-law’s were all attending a church meeting. Grandpa was helping tend the grandchildren. One of the babies needed their mama. Grandpa went to the building where they were and whistled outside the building. Sure enough, within a few minutes here came the girls.

Years later when my darlin and I had children all around the neighborhood, he would do the same thing. He had one whistle that told the children, “Come home!”

What a great memory.

3 Years!

That’s a pretty long time. Three years ago today, I started my blog. I have had so much fun! I’m hoping you have enjoyed my blog too!

I have written 125 “Family History” posts, 12 posts about my “Heroes”, 46 posts about my wonderful children, 29 posts about my sweet “Grandbaby”, hopefully I’ve made you laugh at the “Funny Things” I’ve written. I hope you’ve enjoyed all the notes and letters from “Elder Flexy” and “Hermana Kelsey” my two darling missionaries. I’ve talked about my “Loves”, and my “Life”, and the “Lesson’s” I’ve learned. I’ve had so much fun sharing the “Two Cents” from my little daycare kids, T and G. I have shared some of my favorite wonderful quotes and scriptures on my “Sunday Best”. Not to mention the “Bumper Stickers”, “Beautiful Places”, “Favorite TV/Movie Quotes”, etc.

Someday, I think my children will be so glad I’ve written these things down. It is a personal history of sorts. A testimony of my beliefs and loves, my gift to whoever will read it.

Happy Blogiversary to ourjoyfulnest!

Thoughts and Quotes! Book

Do you ever come across a great thought or quote,

and can’t stand the idea of not keeping it?

I have.

When ever I receive a nice little thought or come across a great quote, I have to keep them. The problem is, then I end up with stacks of these and I can never find them when I want to read them or use them.

I came up with an idea. It’s not perfect, but at least I know where they are and I can look to find what I’m looking for. I call it my “Thought and Quote” book. I know clever, right?

What I did, was take a journal type book, and glued the thoughts and quotes right to the sheets in the book. Easy! Now they’re all together, and easy to find.

Our Staples!

What is a staple?

A large office supply chain? A piece of metal that holds papers together? No, neither of those are what I’m thinking about. What I’m thinking about is a basic dietary item. In some families, basic dietary items are: flour, sugar, rice, or corn. Those are staples at our house too, but they’re not the only things. I’ve decided that there are a few other staples at our house like: milk, cheese, tortilla’s, Pace picante sauce, peanut butter, tortilla chips, fruit snacks. I’m sorry to say we don’t eat as much fruit and vegetables as we should, but we do eat fruit and vegetables. My goal is to make fruits and vegetables more of a staple. Then maybe I can be called the staple-er!
