Sunday Best!

“We hold in our arms the rising generation. They come to this earth with important responsibilities and great spiritual capacities. We cannot be casual in how we prepare them. Our challenge as parents and teachers is not to create a spiritual core in their souls but rather to fan the flame of their spiritual core already aglow with the fire of their premortal faith.
The stories of Jesus can be like a rushing wind across the embers of faith in the hearts of our children, Jesus said,  ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life.’ The stories of Jesus shared over and over bring faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and strength to the foundation of testimony. Can you think of a more valuable gift for our children?
Are the teachings of Jesus Christ  embedded in the minds and souls of our children? Do they think about the Saviour’s life when they wonder what to do in their own lives? This will be more and more important in the years ahead.”

Sunday Best!

Guess what the talks were about in church today? One of my favorite subjects,
 Family History!
We had two speakers. They both did an excellent job. They were talking about how doing family history has been a neat experience and has blessed their lives.
The first speaker, Carolyn, talked about an aunt that lives across the country. This aunt is able to go to cemeteries that their ancestors are buried in and do some of their family history. She said that relationship has been so wonderful. She has learned so much from her aunt about her family’s history. I was wishing I had a distant relative like that. Maybe that is one thing I’ll have to work on.
The second speaker, Wendell, was talking about how he did a “google” search for his ancestor and didn’t find him. So he tried doing a google search for the wife of the man he had already looked for and found them both. Wow! He was even able to take a trip over to England and Wales to do research for his family. I would love that too! It was neat to hear how other’s are doing their family history and loving it.

If you want to have a neat experience learning about your family history, a good place to start is here!

“You may be confident that your deceased people know where their records are, and you can obtain help through inspiration….if there is anywhere on the earth anything concerning them, you will find it. …but you must continue to work. The spirit of your heart turning towards them will come upon you, and the way will be opened in a marvelous manner, and if there is a scrap of evidence concerning them upon the earth, you will find it. When we have done all that we can do ourselves, the Lord will come to our rescue.”

3 Nephi 23:1-3
1 And now, behold, I say unto you, that ye ought to search these things. Yea, a commandment I give unto you that ye search these things diligently; for great are the words of Isaiah. 2 For surely he spake as touching all things concerning my people which are of the house of Israel; therefore it must needs be that he must speak also to the Gentiles. 3 And all things that he spake have been and shall be, even according to the words which he spake.

Today, just to mix it up,
I taught Gospel Doctrine
instead of Primary.
That’s a switch!
I went from teaching the 7-8 yr olds
to teaching adults, Isaiah. It takes a little more prep time.
Two things I learned while preparing this lesson.
1-Christ approves of Isaiah.
He tells us Himself that
Isaiah’s words are “great.”
2-You can understand what
Isaiah is saying,
by study, and by the spirit.
It was a great experience!
I love when I’m challenged.

Newborn Emily
I know that each of us has a vital and essential role as a daughter of God. He has bestowed upon His daughters divine attributes for the purpose of forwarding His work. God has entrusted women with the sacred work of bearing and rearing children. No other work is more important. It is a holy calling. The noblest office for a woman is the sacred work of building eternal families, ideally in partnership with her husband.

What a blessing to know I am a child of God. To know He loves me and has blessed me to be a mother. I do believe it is a sacred and holy calling. I am so grateful for my children and have enjoyed so much watching them grow up.

Each of You Is Unique

My dear sisters, each of you is unique. You are different from each other in many ways. There are those of you who are married. Some of you stay at home with your children, while others of you work outside your homes. Some of you are empty-nesters. There are those of you who are married but do not have children. There are those who are divorced, those who are widowed. Many of you are single women. Some of you have college degrees; some of you do not. There are those who can afford the latest fashions and those who are lucky to have one appropriate Sunday outfit. Such differences are almost endless. Do these differences tempt us to judge one another?
Mother Teresa, a Catholic nun who worked among the poor in India most of her life, spoke this profound truth: “If you judge people, you have no time to love them.” The Savior has admonished, “This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you.” I ask: Can we love one another, as the Savior has commanded, if we judge each other? And I answer—with Mother Teresa—“No; we cannot.”

My Favorite Primary Song
*************************
How could the Father tell the world
 of love and tenderness?

He sent His Son a newborn babe
 with peace and holiness.

How could the Father show the world
 the pathway we should go?

He sent His Son to walk with men
on earth that we may know.

How could the Father tell the world
 of sacrifice of death?

He sent His Son to die for us,
then rise with living breath.

What does the Father ask of us?
What do the scriptures say?

Have faith, have hope,
live like His Son,
help others on their way.

What does he ask,
Live Like His Son.

Sunday Best!

“Love is one the chief characteristics of Deity, and ought to be manifested by those who aspire to be the sons of God. A man filled with the love of God, is not content with blessing his family alone, but ranges through the world, anxious to bless the whole human race…and for doing, I pray that heaven’s choicest blessings my rest upon you.”
-Joseph Smith Jr.

John 13:15, 34-35
15 For I have given you an
example, that ye should do
as I have done to you.
34 A new commandment
I give unto you, That ye love
one another; as I have loved you,
that ye also love one another.
35 By this shall all men know that
ye are my disciples,
if ye have love one to another.
—————————
The dictionary says
that a disciple
 is a follower of Christ.
We can all be disciples-
by following Christ and His example.
When I was serving as a missionary in Texas, I had many great experiences with being a disciple of Christ. One in particular was with a man that my missionary companion, and I, were teaching. He was an older man, kind of set in his ways. As we taught him, he said he knew that the things we were teaching him were true. We asked him if he prayed about them. He said, “Yes.” But the thing that stood out the most, was how we acted, how we loved him. And also how we loved each other. This, to him, was the icing on the cake. He knew what we were teaching him was true, because we had the love that Christ is talking about in John 13:35. What a blessing in my life to help someone to know they have a Savior who loves them.

Matthew 22:15-22
15 Then went the Pharisees, and took counsel how they might entangle him in his talk. 16 And they sent out unto him their disciples with the Herodians, saying Master, we know that thou art true, and teachest the way of God in truth, neither carest thou for any man: for thou regardest not the person of men. 17 Tell us therefore, What thinkest thou? Is it lawful to give tribute unto Caesar? or not? 18 But Jesus perceived their wickedness, and said, Why tempt ye me, ye hypocrites? 19 Shew me the tribute money. And they brought unto him a penny. 20 And he saith unto them, Whose is this image and superscription? 21 The say unto him, Caesar’s. Then saith he unto them, Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar’s; and unto God the things that are God’s. 22 When they had heard these words, they marvelled, and left him, and went their way.

Just like we have tax laws,
the people in Jesus’ time had tax laws too.
When the Pharisees wanted to trick Jesus,
he was aware of their desire to deceive Him.
When He asked for a coin,
He was showing us that we should
obey the laws of the land.
“Render unto Caesar the things that are Caesar’s”.
But He also said “unto God the things that are God’s.”
 What is God’s? Everything.
We are His. Our life is His, Our time is His.
Even in a government without much freedom,
our hearts can be His.
We can obey the laws and love and obey God.
